Gracie Abrams is a singer for the sad and the angry, not limited by gender but tilted towards girls.
The girls who are heartbroken, hurt and healing.
Abrams has just wrapped up her 11-date Aussie tour in Perth.
I was lucky enough to watch Gracie live on her first night in Sydney. If it were possible every song from the album would be on this list, they are just that good.
These are her Top 5 songs from The Secret of Us album.
No.5: Cool (Deluxe Album)
Cool is a song for the people who have been hurt or led on and are expected to act indifferent. Featuring feelings of heartbreak and resilience while trying to get over this person.
No.4: Risk
Risk is all about having that feeling it’s going to be a bad decision but doing it anyway. We can hear this in the lyric “Heard the risk is drownin’, but I’m gonna take it”.
No.3: I love you, I’m sorry
The song by Abrams has multiple layers to it: love, regret and self-realisation. There’s also a hint of acceptance which can be heard in the lyric “That’s just the way life goes”.
No.2: That’s So True (Deluxe Album)
This song was a fan favourite when it was released due to its angry nature. The song describes a one-sided difficulty moving on in a relationship by reminiscing on what happened, while also speculating what’s happening in their new relationship.
No.1: I Told You Things (Deluxe Album)
This song is a personal favourite as it holds that sadness and regret in a relationship, but in a different way than expected. Abrams describes a regret in baring your soul in a relationship and not getting the same in return. She infers that one person thought the relationship was more developed and was delusional or hallucinating.
These are my top 5 songs from The Secret Of Us, but the whole album is worth a listen if you want some gut-wrenching music.
