Mini Vivid lights up Picton

Words and pictures by Duane Soutar

It’s that time of year again.

Wollondilly council, located in the far reaches of south-west Sydney, is hosting its own light festival akin to Sydney’s Vivid: Illuminate Wollondilly – Festival of Art & Light.

The event takes place over three days every year in September with this year’s edition occurring this weekend (Friday the 20th to Sunday 22nd) with most major events occurring on Saturday.

The main streets in the country town of Picton will host local market stalls, a music festival and a family carnival alongside the artistic light projections appearing on the city’s historical and modern buildings.

Macarthur’s local radio station C91.3FM conducts a live broadcast from the windows of the Picton Hotel in the week leading up to every Illuminate and continues throughout the festival, a tradition that has developed over the past three years.

The broadcast gives listeners the opportunity to interact and meet with the local radio presenters they listen to during their morning and evening commute.
