Intuition isn’t something you have to wait for. It’s that quiet inner voice that seems to know before you do.

Try building a relationship with your inner voice: the more you listen, the easier it becomes to recognise.

Here are 5 ways to connect with your intuition:

No.1: Practise mindfulness and meditation

Give yourself five to 10 minutes of quiet time each day to slow down. Sit comfortably, focus on your breathing and allow your thoughts to come and go.

When the mind becomes calmer, it can be easier to notice subtle feelings and signals that you might normally overlook. You don’t need to empty your whole mind but doing this creates space to hear what is already there. And as a bonus, you reduce stress.

No.2: Pay attention to your body

Your body can sometimes notice something before your conscious mind understands why.

Notice how you feel in different situations. A tight stomach, tense shoulders or a feeling of calm can give you clues about what you are experiencing. Pause and ask yourself “what is my body telling me?”

No.3: Journal and reflect

Write down your thoughts and feelings to help you gain insights into yourself and over time you’ll begin to notice patterns.

Keep a journal and record moments when you have a strong gut feeling. Write down what you felt, what you decided to do and what happened afterwards. Reflection helps you to understand when you listened to your intuition and when you ignored it.

No.4: Ground yourself and connect with nature

It’s easy to ignore intuition when life is busy and your mind is full of noise. Grounding yourself or taking a walk in nature can help you slow down, clear your mind and become more present.

Put your phone away, take a few deep breaths and notice what is happening around you. Give yourself this space to help you feel calmer and more energised. Sometimes the answer becomes clearer when you stop trying so hard to find it.

No.5: Be brave enough to listen

Learning to listen doesn’t mean ignoring facts or overthinking every feeling. It means trusting yourself enough to pay attention.

Fear can be loud and urgent whereas intuition isn’t always loud, sometimes it’s a whisper. The real question isn’t “can I trust my intuition?” Perhaps it’s “am I brave enough to listen?”

Pause and you will hear what your intuition might be telling you. Slow down, pay attention to your body, reflect on your experiences and give yourself permission to listen. Because sometimes, you already know.
