Power packed: Biennale art show review

By Alejandro Krakowszky

The Biennale of Sydney dives into different pieces of art from around the world every two years and is always free of charge.

The title for this year’s show, which runs until June 10, is Ten Thousand Suns.

The exhibition is located at the White Bay Power Station in Rozelle, which has been out of use for more than 40 years. The space has undergone some serious redevelopment over recent years and from now on will be used as a dedicated art space.

The Art

The 24th Biennale of Sydney features 96 different artists from around the world and will showcase over 400 pieces of art. This is an increase of 70 over the work on display at the previous Sydney Biennale in 2022 which goes to show the amount of quality there is this year, and why it is a spectacle for so many people.

History

The Biennale of Sydney, established in 1973, is the third-oldest biennale art show in the world. This year’s exhibition is running from March 9 until June 10 and is being directed by Cosmin Costinas and Inti Guerrero.

The Facility

Rozelle’s White Bay Power Station is the venue for this year’s show. The building is easy to access via a new 443 bus which travels between the QVB and White Bay. Public transport is highly recommended as there is little to no parking nearby.

At the venue you can also find bars and food trucks which are easily accessible and well organised. The food and drink taste great and certainly add to the experience of viewing the wonderful art on display.
