Picture this, you go out for your 30-minute lunch break, take a walk along George Street, eyeing the options of all the restaurants along the road, and see this crowd on the sidewalk. If you live or work in this part of the city it would be a familiar sight.
For the citizens of Sydney; the 9-5 workers, the students, the shoppers, and the passersby alike looking for lunch, Sushi Hub is the first place that comes to mind.
In the centre of the buzzing city, only a six-minute walk from Central Station, you’ll find one of over 170 stores of the popular sushi franchise.
Beginning as a humble takeaway store in an alleyway in Cabramatta back in 2006, Sushi Hub has now grown to be a much-beloved Aussie favourite, filling appetites across the nation. This popular franchise celebrates its 20th anniversary next year.
But what is it about the sushi that beckons the growling stomachs and salivating mouths of the people?
What is it about Japanese cuisine that Australians love so much?
According to Time Out Magazine, Japanese is the No.1 favourite cuisine of the Aussies, followed closely by Indian and Italian.
Since Japanese immigration to Australia in the 1980s, and the rise of Japanese pop culture over the more recent years, sushi has found a home right here in Australia. In the Land Down Under all the way from the Land of the Rising Sun.
Sushi is seen as a lovable food, not only to eat on one’s lunch break, but to share in celebrations with loved ones.
If there is anything in the world that can bring people together, it’s food. And if the citizens of Sydney have anything to say on it, it’s sushi.
