Restless soul: I want to go everywhere

By Clio Buckley

How does one choose where they spend the rest of their lives?

It’s a question I have been thinking about a lot lately. I have just turned 18, and I can’t even count the places I want to visit, let alone choose somewhere I might settle down and live.

Of course, it all depends on many things, like the memories you make, your personal experiences, and especially the people you meet.

I know I still have plenty of time to think about this, but does anyone else ever feel overwhelmed by the thought of their future? I definitely do. Sometimes if I think too hard about it, I go down a rabbit hole of endless possibilities.

It seems like most people are happy to stay in their home country long term.

I have a soul that needs to see as much of the world as possible, and honestly, I can’t really picture myself living in Australia forever.

Now, you might think that’s exciting. Having the chance to completely change your reality. At least, that’s what moving to another country feels like to me.

It’s strange to think about how different life can be depending on where you are.

Every continent, country, city, town, and suburb has its own culture, routines, and way of life. Sometimes I leave the Shire and
already feel like people do things differently.

But enough about the confusing stuff. Let’s talk about the places themselves.

Maybe I’m just indecisive, but I could picture myself living almost anywhere. An Italian countryside town, busy Barcelona, the south of France, a cold and cloudy London, Canada’s snowy landscapes, or even Hawaii. The list goes on.

Yeah, I could travel to all of these places, and most people would eventually come home. Not me. I dream of the day I pack my bags for the last time and start a new life somewhere else.

I guess only time will tell. One day, I know I’ll visit a place that just feels right.

Or maybe I’ll end up back in Sydney like everyone else.
