R U OK? Day 2024 is dedicated to encouraging discussions around mental health and providing support to our loved ones, reminding us that one meaningful conversation can make a significant difference.
This year’s theme, “R U OK? Ask Any Day”, emphasises the importance of ongoing discussion and support around mental health.
To celebrate R U OK? Day today, TAFE NSW held a live radio broadcast at the Ultimo campus, with a free BBQ and Red Bulls for students and staff from all faculties.
With the sun shining, TAFE Radio’s music, a mindfulness colouring station, and games, the atmosphere on campus was high-spirited, with journalism student Jazz describing the vibe as “energetic”.

Radio student Ari said the live radio show was going “very well”.
“It’s good to see a lot of people out here celebrating R U OK Day,” he said.
“We did a few voice tracks we’re confident with, and it was good to have so many people watch us.”
Social Media student Mace said R U OK Day? was connected to self-care practices.
“People have been saying to get out in nature, to go to the water, to make time for the things that you love to do, to be grateful for what you have, and to talk things out with people that you love, so have compassion and understanding in relationships, to lend an ear and to know when someone needs a quiet day.”
Avani and Taylor, who are studying Community Services, said that for them R U OK? Day is about mental health awareness.
“It’s about what mental health services are available,” Taylor said.
Eating his free sausage, social media student Duane said: “It’s an amazing turnout, it’s a great chance to start a conversation.”
In a world where stress and isolation are common, R U OK? Day for many serves as a vital reminder that a simple question and discussion can be the first step toward helping those in our lives who need love and support.
