Elsie Silver’s book Hopeless delivers heart-melting romance which draws out emotion, tension and connection that draws in readers and makes them want to turn the page into a small-town setting where everything is not as simple as it seems.
What stood out the most for me was the characters, each had a layered and authentic personalities that make them unique, and the chemistry between the main characters where a mix of soft, vulnerable, and intense moments made their feelings for each other more believable to the reader.
However, the pacing can feel a little to uneven at times with some sections of the book moving too quickly and other parts tending to linger longer than necessary, Even though the story is engaging some plot elements can become a bit too predictable.
Despite some predictable moments the reading experience is highly enjoyable and the writing style is clear and easy to follow with themes of love, trust and personal growth that are explored in many ways that feel genuine.
One of the biggest strengths for me was how the writer made the smalltown community become part of the story instead of serving as a backdrop. The relationships between family and friends add depth to the plot and create a sense of belonging that makes the setting feel more realistic and welcoming.
Elsie Silver also balances emotional moment with light-hearted humour giving readers a break from the heavier themes without taking away from the main plot.
Overall, Hopeless is a strong and engaging romance novel that will appeal to anyone who loves a heartfelt country love story and while it might not be completely unpredictable it is still a novel worthwhile for any hopeless romantic looking for their next read.
